Before you can apply, there are two important steps you need to take:

1. DETERMINE YOUR OWN READINESS TO TAKE ON THIS WORK
2. GATHER COLLEAGUES INTERESTED IN JOINING YOUR TEAM

BELOW WE GIVE YOU MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO SELF-ASSESS YOUR READINESS.

And after you download the Readiness Worksheet we’ll send you a series of emails where you’ll
learn more about putting together a team.
It’s important for you to take your time and carefully work
through the steps in the emails you’ll receive, after you
download the Readiness Worksheet below, to know how to
form your team and apply.

If you have more questions, maybe other educators
have already asked Zaretta...

THE NEXT STEP: THE READINESS WORKSHEET

The next step in the process is to complete the CRE by Design Readiness Worksheet. It’s a self-assessment (in the form of a fillable PDF) that asks you to reflect on your experience in four key areas:
  • Racial Literacy and Awareness
  • Student Relationships
  • Instructional Practices
  • Experience with Inquiry
So you might be asking: How do I score the Readiness Worksheet? The worksheet is a self-assessment tool to help you think through your reasons for wanting to participate.
  • It will help you identify your own starting point on the journey to become more culturally responsive
  • It will help you gauge your appetite for collaborative inquiry with colleagues
  • It will help you know what you are already working with, in terms of knowledge and capacity
As you work through the questions, be honest with yourself. It’s not a quiz and there’s no final score. But if you find that you haven’t done any personal work around implicit bias or are not comfortable talking about how elements of racism might be playing out in your classroom,

Then the PLC isn’t for you. We don’t do training around anti-racism and we assume that you have done your personal work in this area.

Or maybe you realize that you don’t feel comfortable videotaping in your classroom, collecting data, or taking the time to analyze it,

Then the PLC isn’t for you. We will be expecting teams to use the majority of their time engaged in inquiry cycles.

Here’s the good news: It isn’t all on you. Once you’ve finished this self-assessment you’ll look for colleagues who might be up for the adventure and whose skill and experience balance out your own.
